7th Malaysia Ekiden Run - Top 5 Official Results
A - MIXED TEAM - 159 TEAMS
B - MEN OPEN - 129 TEAMS
C - WOMEN OPEN - 38 TEAMS
D - MEN JUNIOR - 449 TEAMS
E - WOMEN JUNIOR - 273 TEAMS
TOTAL = 1048 TEAMS
This event attracted more runners compare to the event a day before - SC Fun Run, even though it was not free. There were 5200+ runners joined in this annual relay event. The 14.8km route divided into 5 zones and each zone distance is vary from 2.4km to 3.5km. As there were more than 1000 runners per zone, so about 10 buses round trip is needed to transport runners to each zone. Runners have to wait for their member to arrive and passed on the sash. It was weird to notice that some runners arrived at the changing zone but can't find their team member, some runners messed up the sash with the ear phone when removing it and some runners don't know who are their team members.
Light breakfast was provided but many became rubbish on the floor and bottle also threw at the middle of the road. Good to see more juniors taking part in the event and show interest in running. Hopefully next year the organizer could prepare more backdrops for runners to take photo instead of everyone cramped at the stage and to avoid disappointment.

4th Malaysia International Ekiden Run 2009

Distance: 5 x 3km
Mix team: 111 team
This year & last year Ekiden Run did not distribute t-shirt. According to the organiser, it was due to shortage of funding. Mostly spent in setting up the station in each 3km. Goodies bag is disappointed, some got toothpaste, some got Powerbar, some got the Eagle brand Thousand Miles Chasing Wind balm (great name ya!) and Malaysia Truly Asia postcard.
Hopefully next year they will get more funding and sponsors to give better quality medal and goodies bag.
The logistic is good with toilet facility, food and drinks in each station. Just the bus in station went back to the starting point was very late. So most of the runners jogged or walked back.
The running route has changed a few times, the map distributed during the bib collection was different from the form, during the race day, the organiser announced the route has changed again. Maybe it was due to the Ironman event which was happened at the same location.
According to the organiser, in Japan there are only less than 10 team joining the Ekiden, So the Japan co-organiser was so surprise to see that there were so many teams joining in Malaysia. The mixed team itself already 111 team.
A great event, will come back next year.
