Penang Bridge Marathon 2010

After 3 weeks of sightseeing walking and walking in Spain and Portugal + a HM at Jaen, Spain + a FM at Porto, Portugal + a FM at Port Aventura, Spain + injury during the FM + 35km in PBIM + heavy rain, finally the right leg got a blister, cramp and swollen. It protest and issued a red card to the master and refused to run even one small step. Breeze walking was only thing that it willing to do for the last 7km. Has to respect and understand it's choice.

Timing 4:21:09 was definitely not what initially expected. What need to be done now is RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Pray for the fast recovery for the next battle - Singapore Maration on 5 Dec.

Due to the overwhelming response from the public for the MALAKOFF KL RUN especially the 12KM distance, MALAKOFF, in consistent with their initiatives of Community and Sports has been working together with all the relevant parties to increase the number of slots to meet the demand from the runners.

Maraton Costa Daurada, Port Avendura, Spain 2010

This event was on 14 Nov, organised by RunnersWord Costa Daurada, Port Aventura Spain, 110km from Barcelona. During summer, as it has a long stretch of beaches and Universal Studio, it is a popular crowded vacation location. Unfortunately November is winter season, not many tourists can be seen and the town was quiet as many shops, hotels and apartments has been closed.

This was the 1st year they organised the run, only 42km and 10km. It was a 2 loops course, flat and straight like no ending to challenge your mental. Cheering from volunteers and spectators along the road has motivated runners to continue. Goodies provided are a bottle of olive oil, a bottle of wine, a cotton t-shirt, a sling bag and runnersworld magazine but is in spanish. After run, free energy drink, donut, fruit and massage were provided. No power gel  was provided during running.

Timing is 3:17:47, unable to achive better timing than the previous week in Porto Marathon.

The following week would be another marathon at home, Penang Bridge.

7 Maratona Do Porto Portugal, 2010

Despite the marathon started at 9am, but due to the rain and wind the weather was chilling. Temparature dropped below 10 celcius. It was on 7 Nov, at Porto city, 320km from Lisbon Portugal. Located along the Douro river in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

The route was challenging, up hill, down hill, across the bridge, against the strong wind along the Atlantic Ocean and the rocky ancient road. Luckly the weather turn bright and sunny but still accompany by cold wind.

Medal awarded was not as great as back home, but with attractive goodies. A bottle of wine, a small packbag, Acsic dryfit t-shirt, a sling bag, a cap, a finisher cotton t-shirt and a Acsic shoe key chain. After the run was beer, fruit and free massage.

Europe have different prizes awarding system. All foreigner runners are classified as open but have ranking in age group. Foreigners only entitled to claim prize in open category. Age group prizes only awarded to local, this is to encourge more local runners. Is this system suitable in Malaysia?

Timing is 3:14:27, a ticket to Boston marathon and London marathon in 2012.

XVI Half Maraton Jaen, Spain 2010

First half marathon in Europe, Spain on 31 Oct 2010 at 10am, while friends at home did their either Run4It or Genting Tri. The half marathon was at Jaen town, 290km from Madrid Spain. That morning was cold and windy. Even though the organiser did not provide medal but gave very good goodies, a cotton t-shirt, a tight running pants, a running vest, a sweeter, a pair of sock and a big traveling bag. After the run, food like hot dog, lemon tea and unlimited beer was provided. Registration fees for the event is 10 euro.
