Real Thompson Trail 2010

Jim Thompson, born March 21st , 1906 in Greenville, Delaware, was an American architect who helped revitalize Thailand’s silk and textile industry in the 1950s and 1960s.Thompson, previously a member of the CIA, disappeared mysteriously after going for an afternoon walk on Easter Sunday in Cameron Highlands on March 26th, 1967.Jim Thompson was on a quiet sojourn to the highlands to visit some friends and the fact that he left his cigarettes and a small silver ‘jungle box’ on the chair outside Moonlight Cottage where he was staying suggests that he had not planned to be gone for long.

Thompson was never seen again, and the theories for his disappearance are many, some plausible and others complex and far-fetched.Many believe that he was kidnapped for his previous involvement in spying activities. However it is more likely that he was eaten by a tiger, murdered in a botched robbery or fell into an aboriginal animal trap (a pit with a spike) and buried by the Orang Asli when they discovered what had happened. Many hypotheses have been put forward to explain Thompson’s disappearance, and there were some reported sightings of him after his disappearance, but what happened to him still remains one of the greater unsolved mysteries of Southeast Asia.

SC KL Marathon 2010

Date: 27 Jun 2010
Time: 5am
Venue: Dataran Merdeka

Same like last year, it was raining heavily when FM about to start at 5am but all runners are still in full spirit to start their journey.

Overall this year SCKLM is better organised compared to last year. Medal and FM Finisher T-shirt's quality also better. Just need to improve on the luggage collection. A friend took him 1 hour to collect his bag. There was also a long long winding queue to collect the milk powder, should distribute during the medal collection.

This year try to take some photos while running, only found out that it is not an easy task. Have to arrive before the cut off time and also need to look after self safety and other runners safety who came from behind too.

When reaching DBKL, saw a guy collapsed on the road side and a few runners helping and shouting for medic to attract their attention. Not sure how long does it take for the ambulance to arrive. Heard that the guy has passed away, may his soul rest in peace.

Top finishers of MPSJ-NST Run have their say

By Dawn Chan and Farhana Syed

SUBANG JAYA: M. Murali is a seasoned runner but the Subang Jaya Municipal Council-New Straits Times Carnival and 10km Run 2010 was his first competitive run of the year. His years of training stood him in good stead, however, as he easily clinched first place in the Men Open 10km category, clocking in at 34 minutes and 15 seconds. The 28-year-old entrepreneur from Semenyih said he usually secures the top three positions in running competitions. "This is my first run this year and I truly enjoyed myself. The running route is excellent, making it easier to win the race. I hope the event will be organised again as I am looking forward to joining it again," he said.
In the Men Junior Veteran 7km category, Subang Jaya resident Ong Chin won first place, clocking in at 24 minutes and 44 seconds. Also a regular runner, Ong is no stranger to running competitions organised by the council.
R. Nanchappan, who travelled all the way from Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, to Subang Jaya proved the journey was worthwhile when he finished first in the Men Senior Veteran 7km category. The government hospital driver, who runs a distance of 10km five times a week, described the race as a breeze."I enjoyed the run because the route was good and well organised. I would definitely want to join again and I will bring my friends along with me as I am all for promoting healthy living," said the 54-year-old.
For N. Ugeswary, coming in first in the 13-17 Year-Old-Girls Open 7km category with a record of 32 minutes and 33 seconds was not enough. The SMK Bahau, Negri Sembilan student said she aspires to do better in terms of timing. "But I am happy because I got to share my joy with all my school friends who also competed today," she said.
Businesswoman Cheah Meei Meei ran her heart out and secured first place in the Women Open 10km category. The 34-year-old from Shah Alam said she had gone all out as this was the last year she qualified for the Women Open category."I will be 'upgraded' to the Women Veteran category and I wanted to end my time in this category on a high note. I am glad I got to do that," she said.Read more

MPSJ 10KM Run 2010

Date: 13 Jun 2010
Time: 7am
Venue: MPSJ Stadium
Distance: 21km, 10km & 5km

This event was postponed from 25 Apr to 13 Jun due to the Kuala Selangor by-election and was not up to expectation. The queue for collecting goodies bag were long and only 3 workers distributing the goodies. As there are different items in the goodies, some goodies with drinking bottle, some with fan in hand shape and some with towel, so many runners changing the goodies based on their likes and caused the queue longer.
The organiser stated in the form that would provide 10 medals but only gave to top 5 winners. Doubt the medal would cost much. Should give more medals to each category if unable to provide finisher medal. Prizes provided are product in kind and voucher, ie. Rebook, Adidas, Health Screening. Morever the official distributing prizes was not friendly and unhelpful.
The are a few disputes caused delay in prizes presentation. The plus point of this event was the lucky draw prizes were very attractive, air ticket, Plasma TV, digital camera etc.
