SEA Game Marathon 2017 - Muhaizar Made It

PUTRAJAYA: It may only have been a Sea Games bronze medal but to marathon runner Muhaizar Mohamad it was worth its weight in gold.

For 44 years, no Malaysian had even made the podium in the Sea Games marathon race until Muhaizar defied the odds to finish third in two hours, 31 minutes and 52 seconds, just ahead of teammate Tan Huong Leong, who was fourth a further 19 seconds behind. Read more from NST

Muhaizar Mohamad ended Malaysia’s 44-year wait for a men’s marathon medal after coming third at the 2017 SEA Games on Saturday.

It was Malaysia’s fourth bronze overall at this year’s Games and first podium finish in men’s marathon since M. Solaimuthu clinched a bronze medal in 1973. Read more from Stadiumastro

Malaysia ended a 44-year marathon drought when Muhaizar Mohamad, 32, an army commando from the Sungai Udang camp in Melaka, bagged the bronze in the men’s category at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 here today.

Singapore’s Soh Rui Yong defended the gold in 2:29:27s while silver went to Indonesia’s Agus Prayogo who clocked 2:31:20s. Muhaizar finished the race in 2:31:52s. Read more from Malaysiakini
