Terry Fox Run 2012

The Terry Fox Run, named after the young man who inspired these events, has been held in KL for the last 18 years in Kuala Lumpur and has attracted thousands of Malaysians from all walks of life. Terry Fox was 18 years old when he was diagnosed with bone cancer. His right leg was amputated above the knee. Whilst in hospital, Terry was so moved by the suffering of cancer patients, especially children and this inspired him to run across Canada (a distance of 8,500 kilometres) to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He called his journey the “Marathon of Hope”. With courage and determination, he ran 42 kilometres a day for 143 consecutive days covering a total of 5,373 kilometres. Terry was forced to abandon his run as the cancer spread to his lungs and he eventually passed away at the age of 21.
