MYCAT Wild Tiger Run 2013 - Top 5 Results

Date: 9 Nov 2013

The run was organized by MYCAT (Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers) and was held at Bukit Jalil Park to increase awareness on the plight of the Malayan tiger, to raise funds for MYCAT's conservation efforts, and to celebrate their 10 years anniversary.

The route is a 10km hilly circle that starts and ends in the park, in the direction of Bukit Jalil Sports Complex - IMU and back. Flag off was at 7:30am , and the weather was kind. Surprisingly the race did not attract many of the local elite runners especially from the Open category. Maybe it is because it's a Saturday or due to there are more events the following day. Many speculated.

Overall organization was ok with respectable refreshment at the end of the race. A nice mementos of a soft Tiger toy for all those that have finished the 10km race. Part of the route was very nice especially in the housing area around IMU, but by the time runners reached the Bukit Jalil highway, traffic was very heavy. So this is rather hazardous to the safety of the runners especially in the absence of road cones and barricades. The runners can choose the sidewalks though, but these sidewalks are equally dangerous with dangling plants and uneven surface.

Although the venue in the park is nice, but it is not very suitable to start and end a speedy race,  because the presence of small toddlers running around and elderly people walking at slow pace may just cause injury to either the participants or the public. Hope there will be improvement in this area in the future. Other than that thumbs up for good organization and the conservation effort!
