• The Corporate Charity Challenge to allow corporate teams to
ride for a good cause
KUALA LUMPUR, 31 OCTOBER 2012 – The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Y Bhg. Datuk Haji Ahmad Phesal bin Haji Talib, today unveiled the new route for OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013, spanning 12.1 kilometres across some of the capital’s most iconic landmarks.
OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013 is scheduled to take place from 11-13 January 2013 at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
Speaking at today’s press conference, Datuk Ahmad Phesal gave his full endorsement towards Malaysia’s largest mass participation cycling event on closed public roads, citing that the one-of-a-kind cycling extravaganza would showcase Kuala Lumpur’s cultural heritage and highlight the focus on eco-friendly sporting events in the heart of the city.
“OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013 is targeting 5,000 cyclists, which I believe is achievable as I understand well over 3,000 participants have already signed up,” he said. “And the organiser is expecting at least 2,000 riders and supporters from Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand to participate in this event. With the increasing interest and participations from foreigners, I am sure this event will turn into an international signature cycling event, in the future”, added Datuk Ahmad Phesal.
The new routes for OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013, for both the mass participation and kids’ rides, converge in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with starting points fixed at KLCC. Read more here

OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013
Event owner and organiser, Spectrum Worldwide and title sponsor, OCBC Bank will provide Malaysia with an exciting cycling experience in Kuala Lumpur once again this January.
It is Malaysia’s only mass participation cycling event on closed, public roads in Kuala Lumpur which caters to all level of cyclists. OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013 intends to reach out to the entire family with a new venue and a range of categories so “Anyone Can Ride!” Everyone is encouraged to participate in this weekend cycling experience and visit the pre/post-ride carnival events.
OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2013 will provide something for everyone; serious cyclists can prove themselves in The Challenge, a demanding 48km ride. More leisurely is the 24km Community Ride for family and friends, as well as children’s rides and a kid’s carnival. For the first time there will also be a special category for Foldies with the 24km Foldies Community Ride.

OCBC Cycle Malaysia 2011 - 52km Challenge Result
Venue: Dataran Merdeka
Around 1700 riders joined this once in a lifetime event - cycled in the closed road at Kuala Lumpur city center for 52km (5 loops x 10.5km). Many cyclists reached the venue as early as 5am for the exciting event. Riders queued early to enter to the kandang so that could start in the first wave which is more advantage. First wave flagged off at 6.45am and subsequent followed closely by others waves.
As the route is quite hilly and certain stretch are very steep and with sharp corner, some careless riders fall down and injured seriously. Some riders also faced technical problem like tyre puncture, chain derail. Many riders also dropped items, i.e sun glass, cat eye, watch, gel, water bottle etc.
The event has to be cut off at 8:25am after getting advice from traffic police due to serious traffic jammed at certain roads and also complaint from drivers. As such many riders were unable to finish their 5 loops but the organizer was generous to give the finisher medal to all riders. Perhaps Putrajaya or Shah Alam is more appropriate for the event.
Many sponsors like Shimano, Polygon displayed their items for clearance sales. There were many different type of bike in term of price, size, height and brand can be seen at Dataran Merdeka . Entertainment was arranged for those 21km riders whom came later as their event started at 9am.
Hopefully this awesome event will continue annually.
